I wasn't ready for this one. Having limited experience with the "The Classics," the Metamorphosis was something I'd only heard about through cultural osmosis. Memes about bugs and of course the iconic opening line were it. And now here I am, stamping this thing with the five star label. An hour and a half well spent, I'd say.
Alas, poor Gregor. The loathing I feel towards this guy's entire family cannot be understated. Another surprise was the humor. Very few books can make me laugh and have me on the verge of tears in such rapid succession. I gotta hand it to Kafka, and the translator as well. This dude becomes a giant insect, and he's still concerned about making it to his job? Are all salesmen like this? Wait, is this all a metaphor for the alienation of capitalism? I'm probably going to be thinking about Samsa's ordeal forever. There's so much to contemplate and digest.
Wholeheartedly recommended, sometimes the classics are classics for a reason.
