Scarred by Emily McIntire

5.0

Scarred is book #2 in the Never After series; it's an enemies to lovers, slow burn and dark royal romance. It's not a fairytale or a retelling, however, there are references to "The Lion King". Emily Mcintire's storytelling skills never ceases to amaze me! Then again, I shouldn't be surprised, because her work will always be remarkable and magnificent. The characters, setting and combination of the elements was *chef's kiss*. Emily did a phenomenal job by bringing this plot to life. Scarred is a fantastic, captivating read; a dark royal romance with a twist of deception, treachery and forbidden romance.

Two people who are unaware that they are more alike than they realized: heavy with grief after the loss of a loved one, and they want vengeance. The stolen moments and slow burn between Sara B. and Tristan were perfect!! They fought so hard to give in to their attraction. And in the last 10-15 chapters, the pace of events really picked up, and let's not forget the spice it was through the roof! Ahh... and Simon! All I have to say is that he captured my heart.

Sara B. is a determined, strong willed fiery heroine with a sharp tongue. The things she did... it blew me away! And Tristan is the prince lurking in the shadows. Not many people were fond of him, but he couldn't care less. He allowed them to underestimate him; Tristan was binding his time, waiting for the right time to strike. He might be the villain in this story, but, Tristan is a character where you can easily love from the first few chapters. Overall, if you love a hero/villain with the "touch/or hurt her I'll kill you" vibe or royal romances, or you are simply looking for your next read, you should read this book. And I'm super excited for the next book!

Sara B. might have "doe eyes", but don't let her innocent facade fool you, after all, she's no "damsel in distress". She is cunning, wicked and adventurous; Sara B. is too curious for her own good, and she likes to live on the dangerous side of life. Some of her actions can be seen as reckless; "not suitable" for her future role: a queen. But nothing will stop her from executing her plan, or so she thought. She didn't anticipate Prince Tristan to affect her so much, both emotionally and physically. Tristan has a reputation: he is the "scarred prince". He's dangerous, unhinged and most people fear him, well, except for one, Sara B. But there's more to him than meets the eye. He's on a mission, and nothing will veer him off course, or so he thought. The future queen piqued his interest, and he can't seem to stay away.
