I am not sure if my issue was with Simon Vance’s narration ( which is usually spot on, but grated on my nerves this time) or solely with the text. I struggled to get into the book, and I never felt invested in any of the characters or the story. I loved the idea of the Napoleonic Wars with dragons, but the execution was disappointing for me. I found most of the book tedious. While I liked Temeraire, Vance’s voice for him was awful. His handler, Lawrence, was a pompous ass, and I believe we are supposed to like him. I could not. Oh well. At least I can clear the series from my TBR.
