12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos
by Jordan B. Peterson
So I think this book is worth reading because it gives you the rules and enough backstory to make you buy into reorienting your life towards striving for better.
But minus 1 star because this book definitely goes on left field with the author's mix of long bible themed asides, personal anecdotes and cherry-picked stats. I think this book could have delivered the message in about half the length.
I appreciate the theme of focusing on yourself before criticizing others but the author seems to brush aside systemic problems of society as something that could be solved by individual action, if only we all tried hard enough. Which is irresponsibly naive given the gravity of breaking his other rules (20th century totalitarianism).
