I mostly picked this book up because of how much I love Victoria Aveyard as a person. I read her Red Queen series and thought it was a solid read. The main character bugged me at times but the story was definitely interesting.
With this book, I liked it but it was so long that a lot of the plot got lost in the excess pages. The storyline is really interesting and I think unique but just needed less fluff to really let it shine! Hopefully this will translate better with the second book (which I already have preordered) but here it was just a little much.
Even though this book was massive, I feel like we didn't get too much characterization for our cast of characters. I want to get to know more of the backstories of Sorasa and Dom especially. And I NEED more of Erida!! Her chapters were always my favorite with her absolute cunning and determination to not be ruled by the men of this world. I adored her and will happily read the next book just for her!
Overall, this was a solid read but leaves plenty to improve upon with the next book. Now I just need to wait for my preorder to come in!
