The Lunar Chronicles Boxed Set: Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Fairest, Winter by Marissa Meyer
4.0
I'm not sure how to rate Winter. It's probably more like 4.5, because enjoyed it a lot! Probably more than I did Cress, because even though I wasn't reading it non-stop, I always wanted to read on. It wasn't boring. (And PRINCESS WINTER OKAY AAH. <3 And all the emotions from the end of the Lunar Chronicles.)
My main problems were:
- Having said that I was never bored, it wasn't gripping, per se. I think it could have been cut down a lot more, because not that much actually happened considering the hefty weight.
- The male characters are all pretty interchangeable.
- ALL THE ROMANCE. I can be terribly intolerant of romance. And it especially irritated me in Winter because all the female protagonists were paired up with a man -- heck, evenLevana in Fairest! LIKE WAT -- and I got incredibly bored.
- Also in response to the romance: there were no queer characters. And I feel kind of crappy for complaining about this, because I think I've been spoiled for diverse books recently. I JUST REALLY WANT QUEER SPACE PIRATES GODAMMIT. *smashes keyboard* It could have been such an awesome aspect. There weren't even any passing mentions in minor characters. I spent a lot of this book thinking about that instead.
