The Wedding Date
by Jasmine Guillory
I have only ever heard good things about Jasmine Guillory, and I was really excited to read this book. But gosh, did it annoy me.
First of all, the main love interest is...kind of an asshole. He treats his supposed best friend terribly, and has a very short temper. But more than anything else in this book I could not get over the fact that these two very successful people (one a doctor, one a lawyer who works for the mayor) did not know how to have even BASIC communication skills. I might need to just stop reading romance novels, because the bad communication trope is really starting to get under my skin.
Things I loved about this book:
-the main character, a black woman, calling out privilege and race differences in a way that wasn't in your face or take away from the story/plotline. It was done seamlessly with the story, and I appreciated that immensely.
-their love for donuts. Did I go get a donut the next morning after finishing this book? Why yes, yes I did.
