What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat
by Aubrey Gordon
This book took me a while to get through -not because it was poorly written or uninteresting, but because I was continually horrified to learn how fat people are treated in our society and needed breaks to process what I was learning. Gordon is phenomenal at painting the picture of what it is like to be a fat, queer woman and why this treatment is not okay (something that should be obvious, but isn't since she had to write a book about it). After exposing the reader to facts and personal experiences to help them understand, she provides the reader with action points for how to be better and positively change society.
I love this book. I desperately hope that it becomes required reading in medical, nursing, and dietetic programs (at the very least). Thank you, Aubrey Gordon, for writing this very important book.
