Sharks in the Rivers by Ada Limón

4.0

This collection wasn't as astounding as her later work (which didn't expect it to be), but there are many great moments here that are classic Ada - unexpected and absolutely wonderful. I was interested in reading Limon's earlier works to study her growth and progression as a poet (as one of my favorite poets). I was also curious to read because she wrote while living in Brooklyn, rather than Kentucky, like her later three books. While there is certainly not a lack of nature in her writing here, this gives it a different, more urban feel to me.

World, turn all you want to,
faster even. I've come to like the way the breeze feels
as it rips me limb from limb.
