Skip the first chapter of the book, it spoils everything.
If you have never read or heard the story of Mata Hari, this novel is great for you to know what exactly happened to her, and who is she. However, make sure that you skip the introduction and chapter 1 because it spoils the whole book. I, honestly, regret reading that first chapter before finishing the book.
Regardless of that, the book is interesting to know. There are many morals that you can learn from that. I recommend that right after the book, read the pages 47 to 53 of the 48 laws of power, because it summirise Paolo Coelho`s book in a very good way.
