Holmes and Watson's adventures kept me company during a radical reorganization of my room after years of postponing: it seemed an impossible task, but Sherlock's wit and his uncanny way of reasoning made it funnier. Fortunately the audiobook was long enough to meet success.
For A Study in Scarlet and The Hound of the Baskervilles I also used Audrey guides, which added some nice information about the setting and gave me interesting food for thought.
To be honest I probably preferred short stories to proper novels.
Stephen Fry's interpretation and forewords are the icing on the cake. I totally agree with him: you want to believe that this unusual duo is real and not just a figment of imagination.
