Getting My Bounce Back: How I Got Fit, Healthier, and Happier (and You Can, Too) by Carolee Belkin Walker

fast-paced

2.0

Let's start with the description... this book wasn't just "inspired" by the author's "highly popular" blog. Aside from the Foreword, Introduction, and Note to Reader (did we really need all of those?) and a chapter from the author's Trainer, it was simply blog post after blog post organized in Chapters with titles like "OMG - Endorphins are for real!"

Another lie from the description "You could fit two of Walker inside what her body looked like in February 2014." No, you couldn't. The author started at 121 lbs. and lost 20 lbs. Oh, she'll make a lot of the fact that she's only 4'11" and her goal weight of 95 lbs. is "healthy" but whatever your opinion of BMI charts, for a woman of that height, 121 lbs. is at the top and 95 lbs. at the bottom the "healthy" range.

Maybe it was because this book was written about 10 years ago, but it's full of a lot of overexercising and disordered eating. There was a good chunk of the book where the author was working at the gym both before AND after work AND walking at lunch. That's not healthy nor something that should "inspire you." I won't even get into the blog posts where she weirdly commented on campus rapes. Yes, Carol, "if the sex is not consensual it's rape." Why are you confused about that and why are you even discussing it in a fitness book?

Kudos to the author for getting into shape and running a marathon in her mid 50s. I'm all for inspiration but, unfortunately, you had to muddle through a lot to find the little of that there was in this book.
