I first read this book when I was 18. Re-read just now. This series, and the other asimov books I read around the same time, are a big part of what got me into sci-fi and fantasy as an adult. Going back to it now, there are some definite flaws. For one, for a book themed around the science of large groups and societal trends, it tends to focus on singular leaders who have figured out the solution on their own. For another, there just aren't female characters. There is exactly one named female character in this book and she appears for about 4 total pages. That being said, even on re-read the story was still engaging, "violence is the last resort of the incompetent" is a quote I have thought about regularly for the past 13 years, and the nostalgia is too strong for me to go below 4 stars
