From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata

3.0

idk why i rated this 3 stars, it probably deserves less but there were some sweet moments and ivan's one sweetass motherfucker. but we are not here to talk about that. i have loads to say about this book, AND MOST OF IT IS A RANT so buckle up bitches for a long ride!

for starters, this wasn't a slow burn.

this was just 500 something pages of the book focusing mainly on jasmine's inner monologue rather than the development of their relationship. they were enemies until they weren't. lukov was a certified asshole until he wasn't. they hated each other until they didn't.

and don’t get me started on the alleged enemies-to-lovers. you’d think they have some professional rivalry but you’re wrong!! the whole basis of them ‘hating’ each other was because jasmine once told ivan his costume was ugly. and because ivan is a man-child and jasmine is equally immature, they’d hurl insults at each other whenever they’d see each other.

and even their banter was embarrassing as fuck. they weren't "allowed" to fight in public due to media but they always made weird mocking faces to each other, sticking their tongues out, kicking and pinching each other, mouthing words like asshole, idiot, fucker and whatnot, to the point their coach had to invade and seperate them like they are some 5 y/o kids who are embarrassing their parents.

and ofcourse, the same formulaic approach to enemies to lovers. the boy being like: "i've always admired you, and all this bodyshaming and assholery was just to get your attention"
