The Body Never Lies: The Lingering Effects of Cruel Parenting by Andrew Edwin Jenkins, Alice Miller
3.0
Fresh insight on child abuse.
Very interesting perspective. The thesis of the book is basically “forgiveness of your abuser is not synonymous with healing and can be harmful” when the abuser is your parent you’re more likely to minimise their wrongdoing. This book is telling to honestly acknowledge what your parents or relatives have done to you in order to start in the path of healing. I thought the mini biographies of people in history was really fascinating.
There were times where it felt like the author kept repeating her point over and over again to the point where it got dry after a while. The point was made, no need to beat me over the head with it.
