I have been trying to read this book for years and finally determined myself to finish it. It was hard for me bc I had such high hopes and loved the beginning and concept of it; however, growing up in Christian culture and the granddaughter of a Christian bookstore owner, it mostly felt like a typical charismatic evangelical book with a different spin on it. Her writing is very poetic and that’s at times beautiful to read and others times seems to take away from the point she is trying to make. I was gutted when she reveals where she worked bc I am all too familiar with the place and it’s been very harmful to myself and others and while on the outside may parade itself as feminist and empowering, is largely funded by patriarchal systems and has power & control dynamics that has been publicly exposed. It’s probably a good thing it took me years to read bc my perspective has shifted quite a bit and my hope that this author’s has as well and she may do an updated version someday in light of how much has changed in our world.
