Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune

3.75

I really like the way Carley Fortune writes. And the lake books really get me because I went to a remote lake in Canada growing up and stayed in a cabin and it was always the same people. Big soft spot. Fern and Will were pretty good characters. I didn’t like how sporadic Maggie’s journal entries were- if they were going to be a major point of the story, they should have been more frequently featured. The who her dad is plot line was also not given enough in the early stages for me to really care when it was revealed. I thought Fern’s terrible teen years and meltdown were very reasonable reactions to the situation at the time. I dislike when authors hype up this big secret and then it ends up being dumb and insignificant. Will’s backstory/secrets were a little more believable as reasons to not want to be together. Overall, enjoyed this one but not necessarily a top tier romance.
