The Godwulf Manuscript by Robert B. Parker

3.0

Ha ha. Fun, if at times a bit uncomfortable. Also a bit weird, with a satanic cult in the middle that pops out of nowhere and disappears just as quickly. But also a bit weird just for me because I wanted to read a light, bouncy crime story after the heavy Weather Underground memoir I’d just finished and right off the bat our hero is investigating early 1970s campus radicals. These Robert Parker “Spenser” novels are supposed to be the bomb, but I guess it can’t be amazing right from the first book. Maybe the amazing doesn’t really start until the 1980s? Anyhow, I am not in a rush to find #2 yet.
