Chester Nez wanted so badly to serve his country, even after witnessing government atrocities to his Navajo people during the Depression and surviving his childhood in boarding school. I found the Navajo perspective on military life fascinating, from haircuts to making fry bread in helmets. He led an interesting life--it's a shame the writing itself was only so-so.
