Whew! This was a hefty read. It could have been told in fewer pages. I enjoyed the overall arc of the story, and there were beautiful passages, but it just got mired in minutiae at times. Ultimately, for me, the parts of the book that told the women's storylines were more impactful than the men. Big Ammachi, Elsie, and Mariamma carried the book for me and kept me listening for more.
