The Wicked King

6/10
I wanted to like this series. I really did. But this book was a big disappointment for me.

My biggest issue with this one is the believability. Jude is 17/18 and is running a whole ass kingdom behind the scenes by herself and successfully???? The details of her reign aren't mentioned and there is just a 5 month time skip instead. The kingdom just feels like a hollow backdrop and it makes me sad. And her relationship with the Court of Shadows, just didn't make much sense. Her "father" was the leader behind Prince Dain's death yet they accept her as their leader with little to no issues. And speaking of Prince Dain, why is it she can talk about the super secret group now that he is dead but she still can't be controlled by other fairies? Why does one part of their bargain still work but not the other? It just doesn't make any sense. I feel like it should be all or nothing.
This book needed more Cardan. I love Cardan. He is the best thing about this book. The slow burn between him and Jude is painful and delicious at the same time. Everyone has already seen all of his amazing quotes so I won't post them here again. But sadly there is just not enough of him in the book. And the little romance we do get between him and Jude is so little and so lacking in detail.
I have already invested my time in the first and second book so I do plan to finish the series. Overall if you are just looking to kill some time, this book is an okay read.
