Did not finish book. Stopped at 8%.

I really wanted to like this book but none of this makes sense. The fae and humans are just believed to be gone? Why? Drums as weapons? Why? How? What? The elves are fighting amongst themselves in an endless war for generations over a single mine??? Why…..I’m sure it gets better later on but I just can’t get into it.
