Cinder was pretty good. The world is interesting and the character nicely developed. The trajectory of the story is predictable, which is unsurprising since it is a re-telling of Cinderella, but it takes some nice twists away from the classic story.
Disappointingly, though, the story in no way resolves. It ends with a cliffhanger requiring a commitment to the series. I find these sorts of endings dishonest and manipulative, and I was extremely disappointed in that regard. While a story can can continue through out a series, each novel should, IMO, have a reasonable stopping place. I'm taking away a star for the ending.
