The Book of Life

2.5 ⭐ actual rating
This is a tough book to review. There wasn't anything particularly horrible about it, but it didn't live up to the well written first two novels.
I had so much fun in the first two books in this series. The connection between Matthew and Diana was masterfully written. The addition of Philippe in book two was amazing and he was my favorite character throughout the series. Each and every character was a joy to have interactions with.
Then we get to book three and it was trying to hard to have more exciting plot points. The main bad guy in this book was interesting but ultimately anticlimactic. You know the author is better at character interactions when the MC and the big bad had a run in in the library and talked for a bit and it was more tense the the final showdown.
While I did have plenty of complaints with this book, especially after I enjoyed the first two books quite a bit, I will say it had a pretty satisfying ending. Which I'm thankful for.
