Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy
4.5
emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Loveable characters: Yes

I devoured Sorcery and Small Magics. It’s super charming—both a deeply funny (and sometimes heartfelt) team up between academic opposites and a low-stakes adventure into a forest full of wild magic. I loved the dynamic between Leo (unambitious, a bit foppish, a trickster when bored) and Grimm (serious, studious, deeply unimpressed by Leo’s nonsense). It’s so much fun watching them stumble from reluctant academic partners to friends and maybe something more. Aided—or dragged along—by an accidental control spell.

I have mixed feelings about the control spell turning out to be
a love spell. Within the context of the book, it makes a lot of sense, but mixing love spells and romance is always an iffy prospect for me
. It’s handled pretty well, though, so I’m sure I’ll have no issue rooting for Leo and Grimm’s relationship in future books.

Sorcery and Small Magics: 4.5 stars
