So. Okay. Initially this book did a poor job of keeping me engaged. I chalked it up to the historical time period and the writing style. And I wasn’t into the way they described the magic. It didn’t seem very magical. There was no humor and no quirky characters, everything was very serious. But as the story went on I got more into it. The story lines got more layered and the love, loss, and betrayals started to cut deeper. By the end I was really into it. I think it just started slow for me.

And I did really enjoy all the fairy tale retellings.
