OUABH is much, much better than Caraval so far. I enjoyed Caraval, but I'm loving this series already and it seems to be so infamous for a reason. The ending was lowkey a bit spiraling for me and it gave me so much emotional whiplash. I began to question every single interaction Evangeline had with Jacks, no matter how much pre-love I saw in them. I know Jacks is endgame, but I'm going to have to dive into the rest of the books to see what he's really up to. When Jacks was being protective of Evangeline in Chaos’s lair and even took the bite from Luc to save her, I thought things would be so different between them. I'm really curious about how Evangeline being his one true love will be revealing, because you have to admit that she is the one. Also, I want to keep a count for the next 2 books, but Jacks only said Evangeline's name twice in this entire book: once when she was caught in Chaos's gaze and he pulled her out, and second when he was fighting the vampire urges and she was ogling him. I loved the part where Evangeline signed off as Little Fox in her letter to Jacks when he passed out. I feel like I knew that Marisol was going to betray Evangeline from the very beginning. Tiberius and Apollo's story was actually so sad. I firmly believe that Tiberius's love curse only broke because of his love for his brother and not because of Evangeline's janky love spell serum. Also Jacks really had some jokes pulled out every now and then. It's so sad to read about how Evangeline feels like she doesn't have a single real relationship with almost anyone, like there is no one she could fully trust. I just want her to be loved and happy!
"I needed to be perfect for her. After I got mauled by the wolf, my scars weren’t sexy scars—”
“He just said sexy scars,” Jacks drawled. “Are you really listening to this?”
