DESCRIPTION
Ianthe was only six years old when her mother vanished and the strange statue appeared in the river near her home. Now, eleven years later, the statue stands as a memorial and a place where Ianthe often visits to tell her mother about her life. But when an old acquaintance returns to town and suggests the statue isn't just a statue, the presence of a mythical creature comes into question, and Ianthe begins to wonder what really happened all those years ago. With her best friend Fintan by her side, Ianthe searches for a lost legend and discovers fantastical dangers, family secrets, and the magic of Ireland. But finding the myth may not be enough to mend the past. And finding the truth just may threaten her future.Mother of the River is a Young Adult (YA) Fantasy.
I was sent this ebook by the author in return for my honest review.
This is the first YA Fantasy that I have read and also the first book that I have read by Emily McPherson. I thoroughly enjoyed the world that Emily McPherson created in this book and I could really picture this place in Ireland filled with faeries, giants and merrows, she really did manage to transport me to another world.
The undercurrent romance in the story I adored. Ianthe and Fintan’s friends to lovers story was beautifully written and I know that there will be so much more to come from that in the rest of the series. I adored how Fintan would do anything for Ianthe and how she started to grow as a person by being with him and grew to be more understanding and supportive.
This story had me wondering many times as to where it was going next and I didn’t expect the ending that we got. It left us hanging and transitioned nicely into where I guess the next book in the series would go. I gave this book 3.75⭐️ as I have never read fantasy like this before and for my first fantasy book I did really enjoy this. I read this as an ebook which isn’t my normal way to read and I admit to struggling to get myself into reading it as it wasn’t in my normal format. Had this been a paperback book o think I would have flown through this much faster.
But overall I enjoyed this book and I would recommend reading it, if you enjoy a YA Fantasy with a hint of romance brewing underneath. I will definitely keep on the lookout for the next books in the series.
