The Lost Village
by Camilla Sten
I initially borrowed this from the library because I LOVE Angela Dawe as a narrator after Finlay Donovan. And she's great here too (Emmy does sound a little like Vero though...lol).
But I got into this SUPER fast and really enjoyed it! The religious fanaticism was creepy and the fact that the weird present-day happenings/murders were done by Aina who was hoping to resurrect her preacher and town was surprising and fun.
I figured Mattias would be Max's ancestor but regardless Matthias sucked lol
I will say that I was hoping that Alice thinking Emmy had basically told her to kill herself was some sort of misunderstanding. But...nope. Emmy just couldn't handle Alice's depression anymore and distanced herself/said something REALLY callous. And when that was revealed, Alice somehow forgave her? I didn't get that at all.
I also felt like the past sections seemed much longer ago than they were. I know it had to be a time recent enough that someone could still be alive and I know that a town under the thrall of a fanatical preacher might act more antiquated. But I kept thinking those chapters were like centuries ago.
All in all a fun, creepy and quick read!
