This was just ok. It was a pretty conventional small town cop romance with a hero who can’t commit and a heroine who is not like other girls. It was not terrible and I wanted to like this more but it was much like so many other books I’ve read. It also had a very dated feel to it. I did not know when I signed up for this arc that it was a reissue of a ten year old book. Many concepts in this are not really being done in romance anymore. Maybe I’m wrong and it was updated, I’ve never read this author before, but I did not love all the trashing of women, the pick me girl energy of the heroine and the alphahole hero who runs hot and cold for the entire book.

There was also a lot of recapping other series and characters and none of it had anything to do with the plot of this book. Some of it was repetitive as well since it had already been covered in other chapters so ended up being stated twice. I skimmed those parts but I counted at least 12 paragraphs devoted to explaining other characters and giving details on their stories. It really bogged this down.

I hate when I grab an arc and the book is so meh for me. I always end up feeling terrible because my intention is to hype it up but this book deserves no hype. It might be ok to pass the time but I really can’t recommend it.
