The concept is interesting enough, but I hate the prose. Early on, I came across a turn of phrase that bugged me so bad I didn't touch it again for weeks, and now having finished it, I can safely say that it wasn't just the single phrase. The habit of a sentence, a paragraph break, a rephrasing of the final word or clause of the sentence, or of listing things in italics, of italicizing for emphasis in general in a way that smacks of the most middle-of-the-road broadest-appeal-aimed fan fiction, of vague conceptual descriptions as states of being (he is x and y and z, oh my), all coalesce into a writerly style which is undeniably present and undeniably not my taste.
