Throne of Air and Darkness by Emberly Ash

Let me preface this with a disclaimer that I loved the first book. Unfortunately, this follow up didn't quite live up to the high standards set by the first installment and fell a little flat for me.

The intrigue was missing this time around, although the prophecies were explored in greater detail they just weren't compelling enough.

This installment suffered from a lot of meaningless plodding around that didn't really contribute to the world building, and a plethora of new characters who didn't really add much to the narrative. I really struggled getting through the middle section of this, but persevered and expected a big pay off however the final act felt too rushed. The big twist at the end revealing the villain lacked emotional punch, as there wasn't enough foreshadowing or groundwork.

One of the biggest pros for me in the first book was that the smut didn't come at the expense of the plot, however this book seemed to have a lot of unnecessary spice scenes that didn't drive the narrative in any meaningful way - often to the detriment of the building tenderness between the main characters. Oh and I really could've done without the furry/bestiality scene
