Ruth does it again! Another swoon worthy book boyfriend. Another complete and utterly obsessed and unhinged goalie lol. We’ve known Darcy since Boarded Hearts where her mom Felicity meets and falls in love with Jon. And we met Archer in her brother’s book Perfect Deke. What we don’t see is how long Archer has been secretly pining for Darcy. These two make the most unlikely pair but somehow it works. In the past two books Archer seems like a douchey playboy but we truly get to see the depths to him, who he really is behind the goalie mask he pretends to wear all the time. We got to see how down bad he is and the depth of his heart. Darcy, we only see bits and pieces of her throughout the books but we get to see her trying to figure out who she is, what she wants and goes for it. After just getting out of an awful relationship, she just wants a fresh start and some fun. However, life has so many curveballs ready to be thrown her way and she honestly handles everything in stride. I knew I would really like this book because I’ve loved all of Ruth’s books so far but 😮‍💨 this has to be my favorite so far. Archer even beats Jensen for me. He does everything to distance himself from his reputation and show his heart to Darcy without showing his full hand because he doesn’t want her to bolt. His feelings were miles past intense or obsessed. Darcy eventually learns and understands Archer. I think Archer was just good at hiding behind his mask and allowed people to have misconceptions about him because he didn’t care what people said or thought. Until Darcy came along and he wanted to be better and wish away his past for her. Somehow they just understand each other and it works.
And we had zero second or third act breakup which was absolutely amazing. Life’s surprise wrench worked out perfectly for these two. I’m trying so hard not to give anything away, but I will say this book is beyond difficult to put down. Not only do we get to watch Archer be absolutely unhinged and obsessed with Darcy but we even get some background character drama 👀. A new character steps on the scene and lets just say we kinda met his dad in the scorpions series …. And he’s just as much of a douche maybe worse than his father 😒. Ahhh I hate douche redemption arc’s but its a Ruth stilling book so I know im going to have to suffer through his major a**holery to read the story that will come of it.
