I find this a bit hard to rate - Hans made me increasingly furious and I had a lot to say about him, which is a sign of the book doing its job quite well.
But also, the book left me wishing for more. Some things were just described, without giving much of an insight of the charachter's feelings and thoughts. That may be deliberate at times, but sometimes I need a fuller picture (may be a me-problem). Also, the political system didn't play much of a role until the DDR was coming to its end, I was hoping for a little more.
