Red Kingdom by Rachel L. Demeter
4.0

A Red Riding Hood historical retelling with Red being a princess and Wolf being the one who conquers the land is a retelling I didn't think I needed in my life, but I devoured this book. 439 pages are hard to read in one day but I did it because Demeter's writing drew me into this world of war and love and didn't let me go.

Being a romance novel, I enjoyed that it went through the whole cause and effect of how everything happened. I feel like that is often left out of novels and I fully understood the characters for everything they did and why they were the way they were. Red Kingdom was filled with just the right amount of predictability. I wasn't able to figure everything out but it gave me the breadcrumbs to make assumptions for some parts, which is my favorite way for a book to be.

The main characters, Blanchette and Rowan, were both interesting characters. The angst between them and the slight feeling of will they/won't they were often there for them. I thought that at times it was leaning smuttier than what happened but it doesn't get spicey till the end and you can skip it if it's not for you. Near the beginning, I was annoyed with Blanchette as I was not vibing with her at first but once I got a little further into the novel, she quickly became my favorite character.

Red Kingdom comes out on April 10th and is a must-read for your April TBR.

**I received Red Kingdom from the author in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.**
