Past Mortems: Life and Death Behind Mortuary Doors by Carla Valentine

informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

I am definitely one of those people where the world of death kind of fascinates me and I think that comes from losing a lot of people so far iny life.

Books like Carla's always fascinates me as it's a career path I have often looked into and wanted to get into but for whatever reason has never happened.

I loved Carla's views of her work, that even on death people deserve to be cared for, looked after and treated with dignity and I really loved this.

She is also right that the whole topic of death is fairly taboo, it's isn't talked about, question which are valid are not asked and I like that this book is trying to break down some of that.

I will say this book is not for the faint of heart, it's quite graphic in its descriptions and for the topics it does touch on and cover but it's handled well and with care.

I love books like this and this one was no different. I learned quite a lot reading this and it's even made me re-evaluate opinions I had on topics in here.

If you have ever wanted to know more information about what it's like working on a mortuary then I definitely urge you to pick this up and give it a read.
