I had low expectations for this book. I have an expensive 5 volume set of hardcover Season 10 that was put out before FOX did an actual limited series Season 10 (itself a bit of a roller coaster of quality), and for all my retrospective disappointment in the graphic novel season, I still enjoyed a lot of it and probably generously rated those books due to coming off a year-long rewatch of the original series on HULU and anticipating the new Season 10.
So this volume surprised me with a more or less coherent and enjoyable story. I've bought into Gibson as an unsettling amoral puppet-master. Author Harris does his old trick of reusing old X-Files beats (Mulder on the run! Scully in front of a committee!) and characters, but dammit those beats worked for a reason. And I did kind of enjoy the Return of the Peacocks.
I see a lot of 1 & 2 star reviews. Here I'll go my own way.
