I loved the family sagas of the Rotter's Club trilogy, especially the later books in the series. And I lived in Birmingham for eight years, so I can very much relate to the setting(s). Like the Rotter's Club books, as family sagas go, this does not disappoint. But, as it turns out, this is loosely related to other Jonathan Coe books: Expo 58, The Rain Before It Falls and Mr Wilder and Me. I'm definitely going to read them, in order.
