I listened to this on audio, and I think that's definitely the best way to experience this series for me. It's light-hearted and action-packed, so it's really easy for me to listen to, and I don't get as much of the listening fatigue as other books occasionally give me. I also don't much care if I miss something because the plot is generally pretty straightforward. The narrator also does a nice job with voices and accents, which makes it even more fun to listen to.
I do hope to see some improvements in a few things as the series progresses, though. For one, Stephanie's unwillingness to learn to defend herself, even though she keeps getting beat up, is getting pretty annoying. It's played for comedy, but if you think about it too closely, it really isn't funny, and it's getting old. It's not that I want her to become a martial arts expert or anything, but I don't actually need her getting beat up by old ladies to make me laugh.
For another, I've lost interest in the love triangle. Morelli is the clear winner for me, so the whole Ranger bit in this book left me a bit cold. It probably doesn't help that the attraction with Ranger is purely physical, which is not a scenario that intrigues me in the slightest. I would far rather see Joe and Stephanie together, working out their relationship issues, than the purely physical bit with Ranger. It just doesn't interest me.
Still, I did enjoy the book. Like the others, it's pure fluffy brain candy, and definitely a nice change of pace from my usual fantasy & science fiction addiction.
