Of My Own Making: A Memoir

Very informative and a fresh take on the topic of PTSD and childhood trauma. Some of the content feels repetitive, concerning her conflicted feelings about her mother, but the book becomes compelling when she discusses the science behind neuroplasticity. I do wish she had spent a bit more time exploring the rage that comes with facing a parent who has failed you over and over. A few scenes touch on this but do not feel connected to the therapy and assessments she receives. Still, her retelling of her childhood is brave. More than once, I gasped out loud at the cruelty she endured. Daria is an incredible person and her book ends with a lovely metaphor for healing and nurturing.
Moderate: Addiction, Child abuse, Drug use, Car accident
