Beautifully written and a moving story, however it does have one of my least favorite themes which is a parent abandoning their child. I can never turn off my brain and just let myself enjoy when that is present in a book. For some reason I can feel sympathy for a lot of effed up characters but someone who abandons their kid fails to be humanized for me. It’s not even personal!! I was never abandoned!! But alas I will always be bitter towards a character that leaves their kid no matter how good of a reason they have (which iris did not have a good reason really but maybe better she left a child she didn’t love then stay and make everyone miserable??? Idk it’s not that serious there are fictional characters)
Graphic: Abandonment
Moderate: Child death, Death, Death of parent
