A Very Easy Death by Simone de Beauvoir

4.0

Simone de Beauvoir recounts the ravaging of her mother by Cancer over the course of a few weeks spliced with events that tell more about her relationships (w/ mother, grandmother, sister, father). Obviously this short book was artfully & beautifully written. Beauvoir rawly describes the reality of Cancer & the devastation of witnessing a loved one live & die with it. She also powerfully discusses grief when a relationship with a parent was fraught. Powerful & poignant, she is a master.
