Desperately Seeking Roommate by Micalea Smeltzer

2.0

I was originally going to give this 1* because I really wasn’t a fan of this book. However, I think I was initially coloured by my extreme dislike of the heroine Lou and it distracted me from the positives.

Firstly, the concept and trope of this book are good. I love a roommates to lovers story and the blurb did initially draw me in. Secondly, the writing isn’t horrible, It didn’t feel stilted or jarring like some other romances I’ve read and the sex scenes weren’t awkward or cringey.

This is where the positives end for me unfortunately, I really tried to like this book but I just couldn’t ever get into it. Going back to my main gripe with the book, Lou, I found her obnoxious, grating and a caricature of a ‘quirky, body positive’ girl. While I’m all for people being their own cheerleader and loving themselves, it was aggravatingly over the top in this book to the point it got boring. Another thing, although I don’t know why this irritated me so much...
