What a gorgeous story! I was completely enthralled during the entire book. Between the plot and the characters, I could not put this story down. It takes place in a magical world that is unlike anything I've read before.

I think what makes The Spear Cuts Through Water so unique is the way the story is told. We are seeing everything from the POV of a man watching a play in a magical theater, where we get to watch the story unfold. We switch between the present watching the play to the past where the man remembers stories and events from his childhood. The past and performance blend together to create a beautiful experience.

I also found myself very attached to the characters. At first, it wasn't too clear who the MCs would be but once we find out, we are rooting for them. I even found myself feeling sorry for characters I would have otherwise despised. I think the author really excelled in how he shifted between perspectives to give us the whole story. And the romantic elements were so subtle and sweet that I think they perfectly complimented the plot

All in all, I highly recommend this book for people who love fantasy and complex plots. I wasn't always sure what was happening and the magic and rules of the world weren't 100% clear, but I still adored everything about this book. It may not be for everyone, but I'd urge all fantasy lovers to give it a try!
