The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai
5.0
This novel, told from the unique perspective of a North Vietnamese family surviving through the war, was incredible. I appreciated the way that Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai gave each character their own voice, and their own demons, with a story that was definitely as cohesive and poignant as Homegoing and Pachinko. It is a marvelous story based on an important history and Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai clearly navigated the writing with care, thoughtfulness, and love.
