Whiskey Tender by Deborah Taffa

adventurous challenging emotional hopeful informative inspiring reflective sad tense medium-paced

4.0

A must read (or listen) type of book.

Whiskey Tender follows Deborah’s life as she navigates her family’s history, lineage, multi-cultural, traditions and what that means to her and her own identity. Deborah does so not without some struggles along the way.

Deborah learns that it was she herself that needed a change of thinking in order to understand the complicated history, and to accept and understand her identity as a half indigenous woman.

There was great exploration of the struggles Deborah faced in her community like not being indigenous enough (or not being white enough), and why moving off the reserve wasn’t about erasing history or identity, but to provide a better and more fulfilling life.
