The Greatest Thing
by Sarah Winifred Searle
the story is set in 2002, and high school, and boy did this really take me back (i narrowly avoided using a tie as a belt). everyone in the story feels so grounded and real, and i appreciate that it doesn't end with a super sweet or super high happy ending. instead it ends with the promise that things often can and do get better, that looking for other solutions to a problem can be the exact right thing, and that being vulnerable can be good.
