Passion Blue by Victoria Strauss

Giulia is the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman. After her father dies, his wife sends her dowry and Giulia to a convent. Needless to say, Giulia is upset. Despite her horoscope, she has always expected to marry and have children. But in Renaissance Italy women have little choice in their future. Giulia unwillingly becomes a novice at Santa Marta, but finds joy when she joins a group of artists. When she meets a young man at the convent to restore a fresco, Giulia believes he is her heart's wish and way out from the convent. But then she learns his motives aren't true and that her true heart's desire may not be what she always thought.

Only give to your teens who will read anything. This book is slow, has little romance, and makes you think.
