Kian by Callie Rhodes

Yet another Omegaverse read, because I have been completely absorbed by this genre at the moment.
This one was great in some elements and missed the mark on others.
What I loved -
THE WORLD-BUILDING: the separation between the betas world and how the alphas are segregated away was just such a nice touch and I loved the depth it added to the plot and the characters.
THE PLOT: I loved Paige's story and reason for running to the boundarylands, it added some much needed action to a book that definitely had some slower moments and was loosing me at times. The moments with Craig and the overarching plot really kept me engaged and invested in how it would resolve, even if I wish it was a bit more touch and go for them to add some suspense.
THE CHARACTERS: I did enjoy the characterisation in this one, everyone felt like they had depth and a past which was great for such a short and snappy read.

The other side of things, that I didn't enjoy as much -
THE ROMANCE: I didn't ship paige and kian...which is a bit of an issue for a romance novel. I get that the fated mates definitely has a bit of a forced element to it which often leads to great tension and hate to love moments but this skipped on that part. Both characters seemed to begrudgingly except each others fate, never fighting it or questioning it. They also never get to know each other or develop anything outside of the forced bond because they have accepted their fate. Which leads to very little chemistry and not much of a desire to read on.
THE SEX - don't get me wrong, it was decently written...when it actually happened. We have basically one sex scene in the book, and one half fade to black kind of situation. The rest of their crazy sex - including her first heat (which is usually a major moment with incredible sex) was skipped over. She wakes up being like "wow how long did that last?" it just felt weird and a little jumpy to me.
Overall, definitely not a bad read and had some promise. I just wish it focused more on developing their relationship and their sexual relationship too.
