Twilight / Life and Death by Stephenie Meyer
4.0
I actually really enjoyed this.
Buuuut despite the gender swap being largely successful (and I totally ship Bonnie and Charlie) I didn’t think Beau worked. There was something about his narrative that was too close to Bella’s. So I spent my whole time reading it was Bella and Edythe and you know what? Meyer accidentally wrote a really good G/G coda fic of her original. There was something that evened the relationship imagining Bella with Edythe, and I think that made more sense with certain reactions as well.
The change at the end was well done too. Things felt more in character, it was a better standalone story, the superfluous details of the original felt better. There were consequences to the outcome Bella didn’t experience that Bella 2.0 did.
And also, thinking about it, I didn’t like the Alice/Archie swap. There just wasn’t the same pull for the character this time around. So if Bella and Alice stayed the same, but all the other swaps in this version existed, I’d go 5 stars.
